Mauricio Arevalo has a great passion for his country, Costa Rica, and has often been called an ambassador of Costa Rican culture and traditions. His love for this country began when he was a young university student. During his first steps studying Hospitality Management, he was hired by TAM Travel Corporation to guide groups of tourists starting to arrive in Costa Rica aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2nd by the Cunard Cruise Lines. He never imagined this would be the start of an incredible journey of mastering destination management.

By doing this work, he got to know all the corners of this beautiful country, its traditions, culture, and history. Telling his nation's history became more than a job, a passion.

When he scaled to executive positions within TAM Travel Corporation, he had the opportunity to partake with many high-level clients who shared their stories about wonderful trips they made worldwide. After so many pleasant experiences and developing a genuine interest in serving these tourists in Costa Rica, his vision of showing visitors the beauties and stories of Costa Rica most authentically and understandably was born.

Mauricio is the ideal person to have a pleasant conversation with because he is very prepared on various topics, including biodiversity, history, intercultural encounters, pre-Columbian traditions, and traditional culinary art.

After 15 successful years of a professional carrier at TAM, he developed many business relationships with clients in the Incentive Travel Industry where he oversaw TAM DMC Division. When he left the company to pursue his dream in the hospitality industry, but after staying a few years on the other side, he decided to come back and create his own company.

This forward-thinker is the founder of Costa Rica DMC Inc. in 2003. This is a boutique travel corporation with a proven record of accomplishment in the destination management, special events, corporate meetings & event Industry. The company has two offices in San José and Liberia and 15 total employees.

Costa Rica DMC Inc. obtained the 2020 and the 2021 World Travel Award for Mexico & Central America's Leading Destination Management Company to recognize the sustained efforts to promote Costa Rica in the International Markets and the development of the local industry's young leaders.  This year, the company received another recognition from Costa Rica's 2021 Leading Destination Management Company by World Travel Awards.

Last December, the company received the Stella Awards 2021 Gold recognition for Best DMC International and US Territories.

Driven and ambitious, he founded the Costa Rica Convention Bureau. This private-sector association promotes continuous business improvement focused on enhancing Costa Rica's international perception of the global corporate world.

Mauricio is the current president of SITE Central America Chapter 2022. (Society for Incentive Travel Excellence). He loves his six dogs dearly, has an envious plant collection, loves to cook and swim and is a great dancer.
